Reflexology

Reflexology is a holistic healing method in which pressure is applied to reflex zones on the feet and hands. ‘Reflex zones’ in this case indicates specific areas on the soles of the feet or palms of the hands, which reflect parts of the rest of the body. It’s important to remember that there is not a direct nerve that connects each zone with the organ but rather an energetic connection, and stimulating the reflex points can help to remove energy blocks.

Reflexology can be used to treat digestive and reproductive disorders, stress and anxiety related conditions, physical injuries, nerves, and circulation. It is applied by using techniques such as ‘finger walking’, ‘pivoting’, or ‘sliding’ to each of the reflex points in question.

A fully qualified reflexologist would be necessary to treat complex or chronic conditions, but including some reflexology in a massage or foot rub will have wonderful benefits to a person’s overall wellbeing! Of course, reaching your own feet to properly apply the pressure needed is quite difficult….luckily the same points can be found on the hands. It is so easy to give yourself a little therapy session during the day – especially while at work if you’re feeling a little stressed!

Working the solar plexus is great when energy is low or you need some grounding. Focus on the adrenal areas when feeling burnt out.

Have a cold? Try stimulating the lung reflex….including the ears and sinuses by pinching and rolling along the length of each finger.

Massaging the stomach/intestines/colon reflex can help with sluggish digestion.

Try giving yourself a short hand reflexology massage (3-5 minutes) during the day, and discover how it can help lower your stress, stimulate your energy centre and boost the circulation in your hands – great now that the cold weather has set in.
